How I've grown as a Learner
This year I
have grown as a writer. This is shown by
my Creative Historian Project. Before
this project, I had never liked to research and use this research to write
something. Before this project purely
fiction, I only liked to write my stories in my worlds, while using as few real
life facts as possible. This project
taught me that I could incorporate research into my stories and still have fun
while writing it. This project enabled e
to write in a different way. The Durango
Nature Study Project also helped me to expand my writing skills. For this we had to write a paper as a
conclusion of our research and lab work.
This paper was 100% factual and
previous to this project I did not like to write these kinds of papers. Colleen however managed to teach it in a slow
way that did not overwhelm me and make me want to stop writing. The Animas program has helped me improve my
writing.
Advisory Social Styles Reflection
With awareness of your own individual social style, as well as others, comes the ability to have more effective communications and relationships. The social styles profile is based upon my strengths and gives me a chance to see the strengths of my classmates. With an awareness of the spectrum of social styles, I develop greater tolerance and understanding of other styles, and gain greater versatility in communicating (On the Edge Productions).
1. What is your primary and secondary social style?
My primary is amiable and my secondary is analytical.
2. Given your social style – how do you like to be treated/interacted with? How don’t you like to be treated/interacted with?
I like to be treated in a friendly way, and I like to be treated as an equal. I don't like to be treated like my mind is empty and that I still need to be taught how to do very simple tasks. I don't like to be told how to do something I already know how to do.
3. Given your social style – Where do you sometimes feel misunderstood?
I feel misunderstood when people ignore my opinions or feelings about something and just start voicing their own.
4. What could others do to relate with you more effectively?
Actively involve me. If I am not directly included in things like conversation, I have a hard time bringing myself into a group and making friends.
5. What could you do to relate with other styles more effectively?
Drivers: Hear them out and try to compromise based on their ideas without letting them overwhelm and control me.
Analytical: Learn to understand their logic, ideas, and opinions before I assume that they are wrong and assume that my own opinions are somehow better or more correct.
Amiables: Just be myself.
Expressives: Let them express themselves, but not letting them get me off track.
6. When you are stressed – what behaviors will people see? What causes you to go into “stress behavior”? When you are stressed what can people do to best support you?
When I am stressed out a smaller amount, I stop working on whatever I am supposed to be working on and take a break. If I am have a larger amount of stress, I just lose control and breakdown. I get minorly stressed when I am under a lot of pressure, like when, school and extracurricular activities pile up and I have very little time to do either. Anticipation can also give me minor stress, like when I am waiting for my POL. I get majorly stressed out when I am extremely uncomfortable with something or when something like the rube goldberg project stops working. Writing about stress also gives me stress. When I am minorly stressed, it is best if people leave me alone and let me do my own thing for a while. If I am majorly stressed, people should leave me alone for a little while, but after that, come talk to me and remind me that I have people I can rely on, trust, and at least partially understand me.
My primary is amiable and my secondary is analytical.
