La Poesía de la Comida
Mi Oda |
Description This project allowed students research a food from a spanish speaking country and then make it. To achieve this, first we needed to choose a food and research until found a dish. After that we continued our research until we selected a recipe that we would be able to purchase all the ingredients needed to create it. Next we began to write a poem about our dish or an ingredient in it. To write this we had to learn about the senses associated with our foods. To achieve this , I made a trial batch so that I could experience the smells and tastes associated with this dish. I made a list of these and then translated it into spanish. I then used this list to write my ode.
Reflection This project allowed me to further connect to my Spanish class. I enjoyed this project, because I was allowed to cook a cuisine of my choice from any Spanish speaking country. I also enjoyed this because it built off of my love of fiction writing with the ode portion of the project. These aspects allowed me to see mexican cuisine in a way other than the american idea of it. Before this project I had the generic american idea about Mexican food, that it is only good if you like hot spicy foods. This project allowed me to see that this overgeneralization is incorrect. Mexican food can come in any flavour, just like cuisine from any other country. This project taught me to ignore the biases that countries have about one another and to decide for myself what the truth about something is.
